Family/Kids Pictures:

The purpose of family portraits, in my opinion, is to capture a great moment and great interaction – that candid feel. When I do family pictures, I do a combination of color and black and white and try to get the entire family together as well as just the children together and then each child separately.  Sometimes, we even try to get just Mom and Dad together – when was the last time that happened!!!??? I work very hard to get facial features pictured that are near and dear to your heart and then I try to encompass their personalities. The environment in which I photograph – either at the studio or outdoors on location, - is always non- threatening and has a sense of ease to it.  I try very hard to make sure adults and kids are all very comfortable and the pictures feel relaxed and natural.

What to wear?

I have several suggestions for family pictures. I love blue jeans and I love casual, but if that is not you then don’t wear it!! I think that patterns are o.k. as long as they are only being worn by one or two of the people in the family. The rest of the family can then pick one of the colors in the pattern to wear and blend it in that way.  I also like layers – I think that this is an easy way to add depth to a picture. The warmer colors are also always a hit – those rusty oranges, barnyard reds and harvest golds really photograph well. Stay away from bright primary colors as they tend to be so bright that they can cast their color on to the skin tone of the individual being photographed. Any emblem or advertisement on your clothing will also become the focal point, so unless that is your purpose (i.e. Packer’s apparel), then eliminate the emblems.

Keep in mind that regardless of when you are having your picture taken, everyone should look as though they are in the same season. Shorts and pants do not photograph well together. Shorts and skirts are fine, Pants and skirts are fine and cropped pants can go with either shorts or pants. If one person is barefoot, (unless it is a baby), then everyone should be barefoot.

Always wear something that is natural to you. You don’t want people looking at a picture of you and saying, “wow, I’ve never seen you wear something like THAT before!!”

These pictures are both “posed portraits” as well as “interactive” shots where the subjects are not looking directly into the camera. I usually photograph each child separate, the children together and then the family together.

Newborn Photography

Newborns are precious and need to be photographed in a different way. A newborn session includes pictures of baby by his/her self, baby with siblings, baby with mom, baby with dad and baby with family. I also do pictures of all their “baby bits” – their eyes, their ears, their hair, their mouth, their hand, etc. I do pretty heavy cropping  when it comes to newborns because it is more about them than it is about mom and dad. I will use mom and dad as props though – so be prepared for that!!

Cost:  $250.00 +tax
